[Text available only in English] "Freiheitsleuchten" calls on artists to illuminate and transform various sites in Mühlhausen’s historic city center with their installations.
They are seeking light-based artworks of all forms—classic large-scale projections with moving images, light sculptures, interactive pieces, purely scenographic approaches, traditional illumination art, walking acts, or sound installations. This open call is addressed to both individual artists and collectives.
The light art and videomapping event “Freiheitsleuchten” will take place on October 17–18, 2025, in the historic old town of Mühlhausen (Thuringia, Germany). As part of the commemorative year “500 Years of the Peasants’ War” and the Thuringian state exhibition “freiheyt 1525”, six locations — including churches, squares, and streets — will be transformed into walkable light installations.
Genius Loci Weimar will be producing and curating this event.
Highlight:
One of the locations, the Marienkirche, is part of a videomapping competition — with a 10,000 Euro prize for the winning concept.
For all other locations, artists are invited to submit a project concept along with a budget proposal.
Deadline: 30.06.2025
